The Power of Persistence: How a Dream Became Legacy Senior Living

Every dream worth building comes with its own set of challenges, doubts, and detours.
Reflecting on the journey leading to Melissa’s House and Legacy Senior Living, one truth stands above all: faith, persistence, and action make the impossible possible.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

When we first started, we didn’t have all the answers. We felt a whisper from God that Residentail Assisted Living was an opportunity for us to build off the principles we read in Rich Dad Poor Dad, and apply our experience in healthcare to improve the aging experience for families across the world. When we started many times, we didn’t even know the right questions to ask. We just knew something had to be done — something better for aging parents, for families feeling overwhelmed, and for the people we loved most. That “something” became Melissa’s House, our first home, named in honor of Katie’s mom.

We didn’t set out thinking we’d become senior living operators. We simply took the next step we could see. One property. One renovation. One family served, and then another and another.

Real estate, for us, wasn’t about flipping houses or chasing markets. It was about creating spaces where families live dignity lives and where families could find peace during some of the hardest seasons of life.

But it wasn’t easy.

There were planning meetings that required lots of expenses and time. Funding hurdles tested our faith. Days when progress felt painfully slow and the finish line moved further away instead of closer.

There were mistakes, moments of second-guessing, lessons learned through experience, not textbooks.

And yet, every obstacle carried a hidden gift: an invitation to persist, to take action even when it didn’t feel convenient or clear.

Legacy Senior Living was born from that persistence.

Today, it’s not just a set of beautiful homes for seniors. It’s a living testimony that when you move forward — even imperfectly — you give God room to build something far greater than you could’ve imagined when you first began.

Looking back, I realize it was never about "having it all figured out" before we started. It was about trusting the process, taking the small steps, celebrating the little wins, and learning along the way.

If you’re standing at the edge of your own dream — if you have an idea in your heart that feels bigger than your current resources, skills, or confidence — I hope this encourages you:

  • Start with what you have.

  • Do what you can today.

  • Be willing to learn as you go.

Persist when it gets hard — because it will — and that’s when the breakthroughs happen.

We originally planned to launch Melissa’s House before Legacy Senior Living however we were blessed with everything we needed and it unfolded different than we planned. What we have found is this is how God works. He walks with us on our journey, it’s up to us to work like there is no tomorrow, and put our faith in God that he will continue to provide us with the wisdom and resources we need.

And so can you.

When the world gives you feedback it’s simply a lesson. The real victory is understanding that God has empowered you for a unique purpose. Once you accept that and embrace the mindset that mistakes and challenges are not a bad thing they are simply opportunities for us to learn.
